Hidden Oasis RV Park, Wikieup, AZ

Wikieup happened to be about midway between Lake Mead and Fountain Hills, AZ where we are headed next. There are a couple of RV parks here, along with a few restaurants, convenience stores and places selling Indian jewelry, t-shirts, etc. Other than that it’s just a wide spot in the road.

Hidden Oasis is your typical RV park in an area like this, dirt and gravel sites, and most of the rigs here appear to be long term. We found a site on the end of a row where we are looking out at the mountains and vegetation. The power is good and we’re staying warm, they have a nice laundry room, and the park backs up to BLM land for hiking so we are happy.

Yesterday we took a drive to Burro Creek Campground, about 15 miles south of Wikieup. We tried to take a hike along the creek, but it was very overgrown and rocky and we couldn’t find an easy path to walk very far. It’s a pretty area and a nice BLM campground, with quite a few sites for big rigs. They have water and a dump station, too, but no hookups. And absolutely no Verizon. We were surprised to see several RVs there. Some of the sites do have good views of the creek.

We talked for a long time with a nice woman from Colorado making their way to Quartzsite. Jim bonded with her cute little rescue dog Buster.

And that’s all the news from Wikieup. Gotta love that name! I found out it is is actually a Mojave Indian word for "shelter" or "home."

    1. It's a really scenic area. Not sure how the fishing is but the creek was much bigger than we expected.

  3. I learned the term Wikieup as a youngster from watching the early TV show 'Broken Arrow' which was about Cochise. :)

  4. Looks like a nice place to keep warm. Love the furry ones on your post today. Great picture of your two and Buster simply darling. How in the world could he need to be rescued. Who would give him up?? Or lose him for that matter.

  5. Love the photos; especially the one of fall colors in the desert. And, the kitties curled up and cozy in their little bed. Take care.

  7. Have you ever been down to Tortilla Flats? It is close to Phoenix. Can't take my RV down there, but drive my toad (Jeep Liberty) and while I am down there I like to get the prickly pear cactus ice cream. No, It doesn't have any thorns. . . Got to get back to Arizona soon.

    1. We have not been to Tortilla Flats. If we have time we might just take a drive there while we're here. Thanks
