Windows Update and Back at McDowell

DSC06826                                       Happy to be back “home” at McDowell Mountain Park

We ended up spending two nights in the gated lot of RV Glass Solutions in Phoenix, where they removed, cleaned, and replaced the three fogged windows in the RV, and repaired a chip on the windshield of the Subaru. All went well but it took two employees the entire day Monday to finish the job. We didn’t want to cross Phoenix at 5:30, so we spent another night in their lot.

Jim wanted to hang around to keep an eye on how the work was progressing, but we did go out for a couple hours for lunch, a haircut for me, and a few groceries. We’re glad to have that behind us, as we always hate having work done on our “house”. The three windows all look nice and clear now, but we won’t feel completely comfortable until it rains and we’re sure there are no leaks. After removing the entire window, they break apart the dual panes, clean them, reseal them, put the windows back in, and caulk. This also entailed removing the blinds and valances.

We left west Phoenix for the 47 mile drive across town to Fountain Hills around 10 AM yesterday, and although there was still quite a bit of traffic on I-10, it was moving nicely and we made it unscathed. We will be here at McDowell for a couple of months, and I’m looking forward to volunteering at Fearless Kitty Rescue again, beginning this Saturday.

I don’t typically write anything political on the blog, but being in a state of shock today over the election results, I just had to mention it. I became concerned for Hillary when we saw this billboard near Congress, AZ last weekend.

Then as we were walking around the Escapees North Ranch we saw Trump/Pence signs in at least a couple dozen yards. What’s funny is that these are senior citizens, most of whom are happily receiving Social Security and Medicare benefits, which the Republicans would like nothing more than to do away with. It’s a shame our country is so divided politically that we would elect someone like Trump to lead our nation. A sad day for the U.S. indeed.

Enough of that, time to hit the mountain bike trails…

  1. The windows look great!
I stayed up until 2:00 in the morning last night. I cried when I heard that Hillary had conceded. I listened to her speech today...amazing. What a gracious, smart and lovely lady! What a loss for the US!

    1. Haven't seen Hillary's speech as Jim couldn't bear to watch the news this morning.
I've had the same sick feeling of dread today that I get when a friend or family member is diagnosed with a serious illness. Our bike ride helped a bit but it's still nagging at me. I guess the next stage is acceptance.

  2. The biggest positive about the election is that it's over. We were so discussed with both candidates that we deleted the news apps on our tablets and stopped watching the news.
Time to move on to important stuff like enjoying life.

  3. RV Glass Solutions is a great outfit, they do very good work. We are in shock over the election, I still am having trouble believing she lost to that man. This does not speak well of us as a nation........

  4. Like many I am surprised at the election results, but not of us as a nation. I'll stand behind my Commander in Chief regardless! Nice pics of McDowell, looking for a Cactus League campsite ...

  5. A sad state of affairs indeed. Acceptance will take me a long time.
On a brighter note your campsite at McDowell looks great! Enjoy it and get out on the bikes and trails often. Exercise always helps one feel better.
    Cheers

  6. Sorry, but your comments about republicans is pure nonsense. No one wants to do away with SS.

    1. Robert, her comment was perhaps hyperbole. What we do know is that they aren't willing to lift the cap on income subject to the tax which, while it might not fix it permanently, would aid in that goal. We also know that they would like to privatize it. I guess that would be for the benefit of Wall Street. Then there is the well known ability of Americans to make smart decisions when it comes to investment choices.

But in the end, we believe it like some folks believe Hillary killed Vince Foster and thus it becomes true.

    2. Jim, thanks for the reply. What I don't like is blanket statements about an entire group of people. It's OK to say there is resistance in Congress about SS, but not that "Republicans" want to do away with it. I, and many of my friends, don't want to see it go away, we want to see it strengthened.

  7. Lots of shock and sadness going on yesterday around here. I know you don't usually comment on such things, but it was extraordinary. Glad you guys made it safely to McDowell.

  8. I am not surprised that there were so many T/P signs in AZ. It seems a lot of people believed the crap they saw on Fox News...instead of bothering to really educate themselves. It is truly sad that the most qualified person in the entire election field lost out to the worst possible candidate simply because she was a woman. This is going to set the US back by leaps and bounds.

Thank goodness for nature to relieve our troubles minds...let us hope the public lands remain public during Drumpfs tenure.

  9. Anxious to hear how your windows turn out and whether over the years they fog up again. I hadn't heard of RV Glass Solutions so thanks for the tip. Yes I'm feeling very depressed and wonder how I can be so at odds with the rest of the country. I am not very proud to be an American when we put a bigoted racist xenophobe in office. As he ramps up oil, gas, pipelines and "clean coal", there goes any hope for care of the environment. A president who believes Global Warming is a hoax. Bet the Bundys are thrilled.

    1. I know what you mean when you say "how I could be so at odds with the rest of the country". I felt the same way when Obama was elected over McCain, and then Romney. And I felt the same way when it looked like elitist, hypocritical, totally corrupt Hillary was ahead in the polls. But in the end, once again Americans righted what needed to be righted. Live with it.

    2. Ed, you weren't doing too bad until you're "live with it" comment. You and I will clearly never understand each other. I find it quite literally incomprehensible that anyone could vote for Trump or even more laughable, think he is presidential material.

However, I have lived long enough to realize that civil discourse is rare and changed minds are seen about as often as unicorns.

All that said, I really don't want Trump supporters telling me or anyone commenting here to "live with it". So, that will be your last shot for political comments here. If that offends you feel free to stop coming by.

    3. Jim, what I meant was "live with" the result. What other choice do we have. America has spoken. And by the way, where did I say that I was a Trump supporter? I didn't vote for him. But I could never vote for Hillary.

    4. Ed, I would say that any reasonable reader would have assumed from your comment that you voted for trump. The fact is that a vote for anyone other than the only two choices is a vote for one of them. So, for my money, you still voted for trump.

And by the way, there is no equivalency in regards to either Obama or Hillary in comparison to trump. I certainly wouldn't have felt the way I do had either McCain or Romney been elected and haven't felt this way about any President in my life and by that I mean actual fear for our future and safety.

This blog isn't about politics and this will conclude this thread. If you want to discuss it further off the blog feel free to email me.

  10. I will be so glad to have this window job behind us. I am really worried about having our shades removed. Maybe that won't be necessary:) Glad your window process went well.

I think a lot of people forgot about their elementary civics lessons on the three branches of our government. The President is only one branch (thank goodness). Politicians can say whatever they want but nothing will change without a lot of other people agreeing.

  11. How wonderful to have a couple months at McDowell to look forward to! The desert is a nice place to heal from the shock and dismay of Tuesday's results. It is very strange for us to be on the other side of the country, dealing with the new reality of our world.

  12. Nice to be in familiar territory. My RV Mobilehome Park is dotted with Trump/Pence signs, also full of the retired. Guess I won't be socializing with the neighbors here.

  13. We had window repair done at RV Glass Solutions in Colburge OR this summer. Would love to get our 2 fogged windows repaired or replaced. Interested to hear how that went. Read once on how to do it yourself and may try it when we get to Quartzsite this winter. The election sucked big time. Hard to get my head around. Will take some time to calm down.

  14. Glad that you are now at McDowell Mountain Park, a place I know you both enjoy so much, a great place to let nature soothe raw nerves. I won't say anything more of a political nature. Since we have been exchanging emails, you both know my feelings. Big hugs to you both.
