After waking up to 20 degrees this morning, it warmed into the upper 50’s so we went for a hike at the Red Canyon campground in the adjoining Cibola National Forest. It is a nice campground with 3 sections, one for RVs, one for tents and the third area is a horse camp. There are no hookups, though, and you have to drive a few miles on a narrow dirt road to get there.
It was a beautiful day for a hike, but we could feel that we were a lot more winded on the climb due to the high elevation. As we got higher, there was snow on the trail so we decided to turn back.
There were a couple of clearings where we had great views.
We were disappointed that we saw no wildlife, since there were signs warning not to feed the bears and bear-proof trash cans. Then we saw this little guy, an Aberts squirrel, just as we came off the trail. It wasn’t a bear, but it was the best we could do.
