We are back in one of our favorite parks, McDowell Mountain in Fountain Hills, just northeast of Phoenix. We hadn’t been here in the winter since they began taking reservations, and when I got around to making them there weren’t a lot of sites to pick from. We ended up in one of the pull-off sites, normally not our first choice, but this turned out to be a good one. We are far away from the site next to us, restrooms are on the other side, and there is no site across. Plus we have a huge backyard, which the cats really like.
We are here for some annual doctor’s appointments, and a chance to ride our new bikes on the many miles of mountain bike trails in the park. Temperatures are climbing to the mid to upper 60s this week. Yeah!
Looks like an awesome site.....is that an electrical pedestal I see in the header picture? What's with that.....LOL
ReplyDeleteI know Paul, can you believe it? We loves us some electricity when it is this cold.

The air looks so clean and clear...and so close to Phoenix!
ReplyDeleteIt's been clear every time we've stayed here. The haze from Vegas was worse at Lake Mead.
DeleteRode 11 miles today. You would love the trails here. I didn't even have to get off and walk the bike once and Jim never fell!
Grid electricity...how very civilized. It finally made it back into the 50's today here at Lake Mead. You guys left at a good time last week. I was cooking outside using a dutch oven on Sunday. It was 31 degrees while I was cooking. Today it was actually warm enough today to break a sweat while hiking. Maybe it will be warm enough for dog swim tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteYou are obviously demented.

It looks pretty darn level there. Low elevation too. You'll have to ride your brakes to stay in shape :)

Based on our one ride so far, there was actually a lot of steady uphill, and equal amounts of fun downhill. Jim says if you go fast enough you get a good workout even on the downhill;)
DeleteLooks like a sweet spot with beautiful views. One of these days we will actually stay there. Have a great time on the trails.....I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great site. And the site number is?? for those who might like to follow in your tire tracks. Although temps climbing into the 60s sounds iffy. LOL
ReplyDeleteSherry, we are in site 66, long enough for any size RV. We prefer the back in sites, though, and those along the perimeter, which this one is. That being said, there are very few bad sites in this park.
DeleteWe loved the perimeter sites at McDowell, we had #62...nuthin' but desert in front of us! I can just picture you guys on the trails right now...we loved that park...called it the mountain biking mecca for seniors because there were lots of seniors riding their $5,000 bikes when we stayed there!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to be able to ride where we don't feel like we're risking life and limb! This is perfect mountain biking for me. In fact last time we were here we were able to ride our cruiser bikes on some of the trails, but it's much more fun with our full suspension bikes.
ReplyDeleteJust catching up on all your adventures while we were away on our cruise. I love the Anniversary Narrows! Glad Z has a home with a child:) We haven't been to McDowell yet but it is on my radar. There are several crested saguaro!!!
