Thanks

Thanks to everyone who sent their kind thoughts and concerns regarding Gayle's brush with widowhood.

One of the best things about the past 6 years has been the new friends, both virtual and in the flesh, that we have made. It is a lifestyle that seems odd to the housebound but seems natural to us.

My biggest concern going forward is to get off blood thinners and I'm hoping that the doctors will find a cause that can be fixed. If not I will have to adjust and modify my behavior.

Anyway, thanks again to everyone. I will leave you with this. I have come up with a possible solution, at least for hiking, and I like to call it Bubble Geezer.

  1. Glad to here you are still "bumping" along. Adjustment to life circumstances seems to be the key. Best wishes in finding a medical solution.

  2. You know, that could be a good look for you. Heres hoping for a non-anticoagulated future.

  3. Love the humor! Part of the challenge is learning to work with whatever curve balls get thrown our way. I'm sure you'll come up with a solution that works for you and let's you see better than that bubble solution! ;-)

  4. Guess we all have to make life changes as we age. But we don't have to like it, just accept it. Interesting bubble idea.

  5. Now that's a practical solution. Does the lining provide UV protection?

Agree with you about road friendships. XOXOX.

    1. Good question Kim, I will be sure to get one with that because I hate slathering on sunscreen.

  6. Well, our hampster loved his bubble! Of course, you're going to be crashing into lots of things, you know.

So glad there are solutions. I always figure as long as there's a diagnosis, there's usually something to make it better. I don't know anything about blood thinners, but I'd sure take them if necessary.

  7. Does changing your altitude considerably have an effect? The parents of some friends always have trouble here at 4623 feet.

    1. Judie, if you are referring to the formation of blood clots I don't know but have not read anything to suggest that. If you are talking about the bubble it would become firmer so I would probably have to release some air.

  8. Hmmm - I hadn't researched this topic before asking the question, but happened upon this site, which seems to have a plethora of information.

Interesting paragraphs about HAPE and HACE under heading "Mountain Safety".

  12. You definitely have the right attitude about these medical things that fall into our laps out of seemingly no where. Do you have any other "things" like high BP or high Cholesterol?? I know many doctors like to assign a drug and let it go at that. Hope yours isn't like that. Wishing you the best and keep us all posted. Widowhood is a very somber thought.

    1. Sherry due to diet and exercise my blood pressure and cholesterol numbers have been great for years. Other than mountain biking I don't really have other risks regarding bleeding.

  13. Tough to get that thing through the entry door! :) Seriously, I am hoping for a solution for you that doesn't involve Xarelto. Hang in there, see you in a couple weeks. Regards JD

  14. Really, really glad Gayle only had a brush with widowhood. Take care so it doesn't happen again. Getting old is really for the birds.

  17. Nice one...though you'd have to be extra careful in the desert with that thing!

  18. Healing is as much about what you keep between your ears as it is what they give you to put in your mouth - sounds to me like you're in great shape!!

While biking might be a bit of a challenge - the bubble would be a hoot for water sports!

  19. The thing with the bubble are the cats. However, you probably wouldn't need it in the rig unless Gayle kicks you repeatedly out of bed for some arcane reason.
