Scenes From Cape Blanco

P1100031

So far we’ve experienced varying degrees of wind, fog, drizzle, clouds and sun here at Cape Blanco State Park.

We moved to a more open site yesterday, since only two days under the dense tree cover was already affecting our mental health. The cats were even becoming depressed!

But we definitely picked a great place to spend the holiday weekend. There are still vacant sites and it is eerily quiet. Yesterday Suzanne joined us here, and we all took a walk to the lighthouse after the sun came out in the afternoon.

Me, Suzanne, and Debbie.

We opted for the tour ($2 or free with a National Parks Pass), where we learned some of the history of the lighthouse and got to climb the spiral staircase for a close-up view of the enormous Fresnel lens.

Good weather or bad, we’ve walked the beach every day. Unlike California, Oregon’s beaches are pet friendly, so Debbie has been letting Rupert and Elliot run to their heart’s content.

Watching them play makes me almost as happy as seeing the sun come out!

  1. The ever-changing moods of Cape Blanco! Hope you get a chance to run up to Bandon to see the sea stacks, visit the lighthouse and eat fish at the fish&chip place on the marina. One of the best on the coast. Stop by Face Rock Creamery for a scoop of ice cream on the way home.

    1. Unfortunately, being vegan, these cute little coastal towns don't offer us much in the way of food. But that's okay since we enjoy looking at the scenery and save money by not eating out!

  3. Gorgeous pictures of a place I surely wish I was right now. Your post card picture is perfect and so is the one above it. Glad Suzanne could catch up with you. I envy her. Looks like 2 legs and 4 paws are all having a great time.

  4. Wow you sure have some great pictures today. The lighthouse picture is definitely postcard worthy but my favorite is the two dog picture with one of them airborne. Too funny!!

  9. I LOVE the dog pictures. Those are really good. The scenery is good, too, but the dogs rule.

  10. The weather might be a little cool but the flowers sure seem to like it anyway! Great shots of the dogs playing in the water.
