More From Anacortes

A five minute ferry ride transported us and our bikes to Guemes Island. We rode 16 very hilly miles around the 8 square mile island, a peaceful place with a small general store and one resort. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go.

We even made a new friend there.

Pushing up all those hills didn’t help Jim’s tendonitis, so yesterday he rested while Kim, Debbie, and I took a drive up to 1,273’ Mount Erie, the highest point on Fidalgo Island. You can hike 2.5 miles up to it also, which we considered, but opted for the easy way out.

Then we went south a few more miles to get a closer look at the Deception Pass bridge, since we just crossed over it on our way here but didn’t stop.

We decided to hike the Goose Rock Perimeter trail, then climb up to the lofty 484’ summit.

Suzanne didn’t quite make it back in time from her island hopping weekend to join us, but the rest of us went out last evening for one last happy hour at the Brown Lantern Ale House. The beer selection wasn’t great, but the food made up for it.

We’ve really enjoyed our time here in Anacortes. Today we say goodbye to Kim and Suzanne and head for Baker Lake for a visit with Jimbo and Chica, then on to North Cascades National Park.

  4. I love that first photo of the harbor from Santee overlook…I would bike up to it from the rv area and then wander the rest of the roads looking at all the fine homes out there on the point. Tempting…to trade mountains for the ocean for a year or two.

  6. What a great tour and bike ride! Some of your photos remind me of the St. Lawrence Rive and the Thousand Islands.

  7. Some neat little corners you've discovered in Anacortes. Did you make it to Anacortes Brewery (Rockfish Grill). We had a nice stout there.
