Ten Years on the Road

DSC00665

Ten years ago today we left Pensacola, FL and set off to travel the country in our Lazy Daze motor home. We didn’t really have a plan, other than wanting to see the west. Our first month was spent driving to Ohio and Pennsylvania to visit friends and family, then joining a get-together of the South East Lazy Daze group in Alabama before having to return to Pensacola to re-list our house as the sale fell through while we were gone. We only spent a couple nights in our driveway, anxious to get moving again, and worked our way to Big Bend National Park, a place we had wanted to visit for years. On December 31, 2008, during a hike in Las Cruces, NM we got word from our realtor that we were homeless. We will always remember how good we felt when we got that news at this very spot.

And the rest, as they say, is history, We had no idea how long we would do this, but here we are, ten years later, still finding new places to see, revisiting favorites, and meeting friends, which has been the best part of our travels.

Yes, there have been ups and downs along the way, but these have been the best ten years of our life together and we’re looking forward to the next ten, whether we’re traveling or settled down again somewhere. We still don’t really have a plan!

  1. Congratulations. It is a wonderful feeling and usually gets better the longer you travel. Tomorrow I start year 12 of fulltime travel. My starting point of full time travel was Richland Washington.
