Moving On to Q

 DSC00160

After nearly two months at McDowell Mountain we are finally leaving today for Quartzsite. We extended one more day because some mail did not arrive and we wanted to do one more bike ride after getting rained out earlier in the week. It has been a wet winter so far here in the Sonoran desert but that has made it much greener and will hopefully make for good cactus flowers in the spring.

The other day after the rain we had some interesting clouds as the sun was going down. Our new Sony camera is doing a very acceptable job so far.

We have really enjoyed our time here. There are quite a few people who come here to spend the winter months and most of them are mountain bikers so we’ve met some really nice folks who we hope to see here next year. And Jim is not the only one mountain biking on blood thinners!

In all of our riding here neither of us fell, but yesterday when we got back I took the cats out while Jim returned something to the camp host. Somehow Elvis came out of his harness, and while I was trying to chase him back to the door I tripped and fell face first. Luckily my hands and knees caught me but they are scraped, bruised and bloodied. Glad I did this on our last day as I will not be biking for at least a few days or more.

If any of you follow Just Wanderin’ or Where’s Weaver you probably already know about the Blogger Fest on Saturday the 24th. We plan to be there to see some old friends and meet some new bloggers. Sounds like a fun afternoon.

  2. That camera is doing quite fine. Will be making the trek to Q tomorrow. Hope to attend this Blogger Fest. Sounds like you need some time off biking to heal.

  3. So sorry about your fall. Lucky that you only had scrapes, though, as painful as that can be. I'm always worried about falling and breaking a bone, that would be really bad.

Look forward to seeing you guys at Quartzsite, and I plan to attend the Blogger-Fest and meet some of the bloggers who will be there. Should be fun!

  6. OUCH! Elvis you rascal, look what you did. Your description of face first and your injuries made me cringe. I'd be so purple for weeks. Hope you heel fast. We can't seem to ever be able to spend our winters near enough to Q to attend. :-( Sounds like everyone else will be there though.

  7. You probably will be wearing long pants and jackets at the Q so your booboos can heal nicely without anyone even knowing. See you at the Q.

  8. Ooo. Ouch. Maybe you can get Jim to do the cooking and cleaning till your hands heal?

  11. Fell in the parking lot a couple weeks ago and those burning scrapes on hands and knee brought back so many memories of childhood.....then the aches and pains started and remembered I definitely am not a child! Keep things moving so you don't get stiff :-) Love the cloud pics - the colors are beautiful. Still hoping to make the blogfest, would love to meet you and Jim!

  13. Glad you new camera is working out for you:) It is so much easier to carry the camera in your pocket.

I am sure your injuries haven't endeared Elvis to your heart any more! Hope you are feeling better.

We would love to come to the Q for the blogger meet up. I wish it was a week later. We will probably be in Kofa National Preserve around the 26th! Not sure if we will still be in the Yuma area at the beginning of Feb. I'll keep in touch.

    1. I didn't blame Elvis, just myself for not watching where I was going!
Kofa is right down the road from Q. So will you be boondocking??? We'll probably be here until the 28th or 29th.

    2. Yes, we are planning to boondock in Kofa now that we know we can run the frig all day with just the batteries. We probably won't arrive til the 28th. Where are you headed after Q?

    3. Well of course you're arriving on the 28! We're leaving that day to head to White Tank Mountain on the west side of Phoenix. Plan to spend 3 nights there. Jim has one more appointment at the Mayo on the 30th. From there we aren't sure where we'll be heading. Probably somewhere near Yuma. Looks like we'll just keep missing each other again this year! Glad you are finally getting to do a little boondocking.
