McPhee Campground, Dolores, CO

DSCN2434

Sunday we headed west about 50 miles to McPhee Campground, another forest service campground near Dolores. It’s located on a mesa above the McPhee Reservoir, but unfortunately none of the sites have a view of the lake. There are some sites with electric but more without, and you can fill your RV with potable water at the dump station. We opted for a power site as it is in the upper 80’s and it was only $5 more for a total of $13.50 for an electric site (with the senior pass). We have fairly good internet and well over 100 channel on TV, a record for us.The one downside is many of the sites are very unlevel, and we each tried 4 or 5 back-ins before settling for a pull-through along side of the road. It’s days like those we wish we had power levelers.

I had been corresponding with Barbara from Me and My Dog blog, and knew she had been here a few days. She and Katie came by yesterday afternoon and we had a nice chat. It’s always fun meeting fellow bloggers and their pets!

Our visit got cut a bit short by the threat of a thunderstorm, but it blew by with only a few drops of rain so Jim and I decided to take a little hike along the park’s only trail which goes to an overlook of the lake, then down to the boat ramp.

We never made it down to the water since it started looking really dark, so we headed back. Hope to finish the trail tomorrow.

We did see several deer. There were probably many more but they blended in so well they were hard to spot.

Today we visited Mesa Verde National Park, but it may take awhile to sort through all the pictures we took there. It’s an impressive place.

  1. We just can't get over the difference in prices for camping out west and in the East. We are heading back to Ohio and it is ridiculous. For you lovely site, we would have to pay $35. NO WAY! There are very few campgrounds through Indiana.
Love Mesa Verde. I look forward to seeing the photos. Include as many as you want!
