El Chorro Regional Park

P1070782

The Lazy Daze Morro Bay gathering officially ended yesterday, although quite a few people were hanging around another day. We had a really good time visiting with some old Lazy Daze friends we hadn’t seen for awhile and met lots of new people. And there were quite a few vegans in the group so we had lots of food choices at the pot lucks.

We still wanted to do a few more things in this area but couldn’t bring ourselves to keep paying $35 a night, so we moved nine miles east to El Chorro Regional Park, midway between Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo. Jim was getting bugged by mosquitoes at the state park, anyway, and so far they don’t seem to be around here.  This is a nice San Luis Obispo county park, $23/night for dry camping, $35 for full hookups. We’re in the cheap seats. There are restrooms, water, and they let you dump at one of the hookup sites. The only downside is we’re close to Hwy 1 so there is some traffic noise.

The park has a lovely botanical garden, golf course, picnic areas, and a dog park.

Strange to see all these turkeys on the golf course.

We wandered around the gardens and took a hike up the hill across from our site.

Lots of colorful flowers in the botanical garden.

Morro Bay, El Chorro, and San Luis Obispo, CA

And birds everywhere, even pecking at our windows.

We got some good ideas for places to stay and things to see in California from the folks at Morro Bay, so we plan to chill for a couple days and do some trip planning, check out San Luis Obispo, and do a little hiking near the coast.

  4. Love the garden photos! We stayed at that campground during the fall for a few days, but sadly there were no flowers blooming. We also chose the cheap side and had it all to ourselves which we considered a bonus in addition to the cheaper price.

  6. That looks like a nice park. Not a lot of cheap places to stay in that area I guess. When we were visiting friends near Santa Cruz, we stayed in a private park at over $50 per night - UGH!! Not much choice though on the California coast. I really enjoyed your pictures tonight. Looks like the kitties are entertained!

  7. Looks like you had a good time at Morro Bay. Chorro seems pretty nice too; but the price is too much. That's CA I guess. I'll be headed up the 395 next month.

  8. Glad to see the cats having a good time with their very own friends.

I wanted to visit San Luis Opisbo and see some of the olive oil places. If I remember correctly, there are several in that area.

  9. CA coast can be very expensive and probably very few boondocking options. Looks like you ended up in a neat place.
