Nature’s Camouflage

How long did it take you to find the screech owl?

A few weeks ago we were walking down the Kiskadee Trail in Bentsen State Park and saw a couple taking pictures and looking through binoculars. When we walked up to them they said they had been watching a screech owl sitting in a hole in a dead tree. It never came out while we were there, so we’ve been back several times looking for it. The other day we walked right past this tree and almost forgot to look. Even with the binoculars I initially thought it was not there, then realized it blended so well it was really difficult to see. Jim did get some good photos, and after about 5 minutes it went back into the hole. Amazing!

  1. What a cool photo of the screech owl. We have never seen one, but we may have but couldn't pick it out. Whenever this rain stops, we hope to get over there and walk those trails.
