Can It Be 2016 Already?

It’s been another busy but cold week at McDowell Mountain Park. We had a very nice Christmas with volunteers and friends from the park, and got to meet and have happy hour with Steve and Mona Liza from The Lowe’s RV Adventures.

At Steve and Mona Liza’s luxurious home on wheels.

We had a lot of laughs and quite a few retakes with Jim trying to get the camera set on the self-timer.

I filled in an extra day at Fearless Kitty Rescue and had a few routine doctor appointments this week, with everything being fine.Yesterday afternoon we went for a bike ride and stopped for a break at the picnic table on the Pemberton trail. There we met a nice couple who were 76 and 78 years old and still out mountain biking. And the man is being treated for some kind of cancer. Very inspiring! Then later we celebrated British New Year (which came at 5 o’clock) with some of our neighbors. Once the sun goes down it is just too cold for sitting outside, especially since there is a ban on fires due to air quality in the Phoenix area. We were home by 6, a perfect New Year’s Eve celebration!

One of my buddies at Fearless Kitty.

We’re getting down to just two weeks left before we leave here.  Jim’s rear shock on his bike failed on the trail yesterday so he is going to attempt to rebuild it himself. Luckily one of the volunteers is a bike shop owner and had a rebuild kit, which Jim picked up last night. I have one more sewing project before we meet up with Debbie and return the sewing machine, and we have an appointment to take the Subaru in for some work next week. Also need to start thinking about our plans for the year, and although we have some ideas it seems we always change them at the last minute. Tomorrow we’re hiking with Steve and Mona Liza so maybe we’ll actually take some photos.

We’re just hoping for a healthy, happy 2016 and wish everyone else the same!

  1. Happy New Year! It may be chilly, but Elvis and Sophie look toasty warm.

  2. HAPPY NEW YEAR. This morning I am cooking sausage stew and trying to decide what/where to roam a bit this spring. Cold and raining outside so cooking is good. Heats the Castle.
    Be safe and have fun.

  3. Cheers for the new year! Our photo retakes are hilarious, thank you !
We too have lots of plan and seemed to always get change in the last minute. But for sure our hike on Saturday will not be one of them :)
Elvis and Sophie are just adorable!

  4. Happy New Year to you FOUR! Keep enjoying the good life.

  5. Great pictures of you 3 and 4. LOL - we have the same funny self timer pictures. Love the last shot of the two luckiest cats in the world. Happy New Year and Safe Travels to you!

  6. That is the sweetest photo of Elvis and Sophie! Our prior cats would never get that close to each other!

  7. Looks like so much fun with ML and Steve! Wishing you and the kitties a healthy, happy, and adventure filled New Year!

  8. So glad you got to meet Steve and MonaLiza. They are super people and great hikers. You'll have a fun time together. We are looking forward to seeing them again mid January when they come to Lazydays.

Celebrating the British New Year was a great idea! It is way too cold for outside activities once that sun drops.

Wishing you and Jim a very Happy, Healthy, 2016 and one that finally brings us together:)

  9. Sounds like a grand celebration. Too cold here to even be out much during the day, nights are out of the question. Hoping to see some warmer temps in southern AZ in a couple of weeks. May you enjoy a Happy and Healthy New Year!

  10. We miss you guys so I hope we are in your "plans" for 2016 :)

  11. Happy 2016 to you and Jim and the kitties. Can't imagine being outside without a fire after dark, so the 5 pm festivities sound grand! We did a "NY New Years", wrapping up at 9 PM here :-)))

  12. Sophie and Elvis tell the whole story! I keep seeing in my mind their "baby picture" that you posted. Who could resist those cutie pies. And they still are such a source of entertainment, yah?

    Virtual hugs,

  13. Happy New Year!!! Looking forward to following all of your adventures in 2016!
